Dyslipidemia is a risk factor for the development of ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease). The World Health Organization estimates that dyslipidemia is associated with more than 50% of global cases of ischemic heart disease, and over 4 million deaths per year. In Lithuania the mortality of ischemic heart disease is 4 times higher than the European union average. Dyslipidemia is an abnormal amount of lipids (e.g. triglycerides, cholesterol and/or fat phospholipids) in the blood. Lithuania is still at the bottom of worst LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol) management in EU and only 10% of high risk patient reach recommended LDL-C level of 1.8 mmol/L1. Managing LDL-C through innovative solutions can reduce the cardiovascular death rate. This requires a multi-faceted approach, and a “Hospiton” hackathon is the perfect platform for collaboration and development of innovative solutions to tackle this challenge.
Mortality from cardiovascular diseases in Lithuania is one of the highest in Europe. The rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality are almost 2-3 times worse than the European Union average.
Digitally Streamlining Dyslipidemia Management
We encourage you to develop innovative digital health solutions that can streamline dyslipidemia screening and management processes. This could involve creating mobile applications, web platforms, or wearable devices that help patients monitor their lipid levels, track their treatment targets and progress, and receive personalized recommendations for lifestyle changes and medication adherence. The solutions could also include data analytics and machine learning algorithms to improve risk prediction and treatment outcomes.
Elevating Patient Engagement and Knowledge
Focus on improving patient engagement and education to enhance their understanding of dyslipidemia and motivate them to actively participate in their own care. Maybe it can be interactive educational tools, gamified applications, or social platforms that provide personalized information about dyslipidemia, its impact on health, and the importance of lifestyle modifications and treatment adherence. Additionally, ideas for fostering peer support networks or virtual communities to connect patients with similar conditions could be explored.
Enhancing Dyslipidemia Data Collaboration
Think about solutions that enhance the integration of dyslipidemia data across different healthcare systems and stakeholders. This could involve developing interoperable electronic health record (EHR) systems, data-sharing platforms, or application programming interfaces (APIs) that allow seamless exchange of dyslipidemia-related information between healthcare providers, laboratories, pharmacies, and patients. Collaborative tools for multidisciplinary care teams, enabling better coordination and communication, could also be explored.
This special track is designed to revolutionize cardiovascular care through the use of statin data.
We encourage participants to create innovations based on health data. We believe Lithuanian innovators will actively use health data in the future and health care providers will share it more as a result of this initiative.
